We are wrapping up 2020 — a unique year, to say the least — and with it came new wedding trends and fun data. (I love wedding facts!)

Most Popular Wedding Month

While in the past, September seems to be packed to the rafters with weddings, are you curious what month has overthrown September and became the most popular wedding month in 2020? Hint . . . it’s after September and before November — yes, October rose to the top for the most popular month to get married in 2020.

It comes as no shock that Saturdays remain to be the most popular day of the week for weddings, but are you interested in discovering the top ten most popular wedding dates of 2020?

Most Popular Wedding Dates of 2020

You’ll see below that the trend for 2020 were date patterns. Zola’s Editorial Manager stated that they’ve “actually heard of a lot of couples who had longer engagements so they could get married in 2020” and who specifically chose a date “with a special pattern.”

  1. Saturday, October 10, 2020: Making an anniversary pattern of 10/10/2020!
  2. Saturday, June 20, 2020:  Placing in second, this date also comes with a pattern, 6/20/2020.
  3. Saturday, September 19, 2020: With four Saturdays in September, three of these Saturdays made it into the “Top 10” list. September 19 being the most popular of the three, and with the neat pattern of 9/19/2020.
  4.  Saturday, June 6, 2020: Another date pattern! . . . 6/6/2020.
  5. Saturday, September 26, 2020
  6. Saturday, October 17, 2020
  7. Saturday, October 3, 2020
  8. Saturday, September 12, 2020
  9. Saturday, May 30, 2020
  10. Saturday, May 16, 2020

After October and September, the months of June and May trail in second and third place for popular months to say “I Do.”

Comparison to Previous Years

Un-shockingly, like 2020, 2019’s most popular dates also all fell on Saturdays – with the October being the most popular and October 12, 2019, topping the charts for the most popular date. Looking one more year back, October 20, 2018, was the most requested date of 2018.

Historically, Spring and Summer weddings often rise to the top of the list for wedding dates. However, Fall weddings are steadily becoming increasingly common. In 2018, American Wedding Study reported that summer weddings overall have decreased by more than 20 percent in the last year, while fall weddings are seeing a steady rise in popularity.

But really, is any month the best to get married? — I think anytime is best! I’ve been to weddings in January, June, September, October, and more — and each month, and each date, hold a unique special touch.
